HomeFest is a New Orleans’ festival celebrating history, culture, and local economy on Bayou Road. Bayou Road is located in a historic neighborhood of Free People of Color and is currently home to 25 independently owned Black businesses. Bayou Road is the city’s oldest place of commerce and the site of New Orleans’ very own Black Wall Street.
HomeFest was created in 2013 by Community Book Center as a way of elevating New Orleans’ small business, cultural institutions, artists, authors and other native talents. Over a decade later, HomeFest continues to promote local entrepreneurs and culture bearers, to address local challenges and to shine a light on vital economic and community resources.
As an effort in support of place-based economic development and cultural economy, HomeFest has grown into a multi-year partnership between the Bayou Road Business Association, Black Bayou and Broad Community Connections. This year, there will be live performances, activations, panelists, crafts vendor marketplace and a community resource fair. More details to come!
